Earthquake of 5.5 Magnitude Shakes Uttarakhand; Strong Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR, Punjab

New Delhi, Dec 6: Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday at 8:50 pm. According to reports, epicentre of the quake is in Uttarakhand and it was felt in Punjab and Haryana as well.


  • The earthquake hit at 8.50 pm(IST)

  • The epicentre lies in Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand

  • Magnitude recorded on the Richter scale is 5.5-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said tremors were also felt in Northern states of the country, and the magnitude recorded on the Richter scale is 5.0 and epicenter 121 Km East of Dehradun and 90 Km of Rishikesh.

According to TV reports, in Uttarakhand the magnitude recorded on the Richter scale is 5.5. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said earthquake tremors with magnitude 5.5 hit Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, depth 30 km.

In Uttarakhand, tremors were felt in Champawat, Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Ramnagar, Tehri and Chamoli districts of the state.

As per reports, soon after the quake people evacuated their buildings to safer ground.
