Fodder scam: Court sentences Lalu Prasad to 3.5 years in jail

Jan 06, 2018 -The special CBI court, which convicted Lalu Prasad in a fodder scam case along with 7 others, announced a jail term of 3.5 years and a Rs 5 lakh as penalty for the RJD chief today. The court had convicted Prasad for criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The seven convicts include Phool Chand, Mahesh Prasad, Bake Julious,Sunil Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Sudhir Kumar and Raja Ram who have also been sentenced to 3.5 years in jail and Rs 5 lakh fine each.

The court concluded arguments on the quantum of punishment against Lalu Prasad and 7 others in connection with the withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deogarh Treasury between 1990 and 1994 when he was the chief minister of Bihar. “We welcome this judgement, this will prove to be a historic decision in Bihar politics. It is the end of a chapter” says KC Tyagi.
