DC inspects the reformatting of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)

Jalandhar, May 14Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today inspected the first stage of reformatting of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for their usage in the upcoming by-poll of the Shahkot assembly segment.

The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, went to the Government Polytechnic College for Women at Ladowali Road and inspected the preparations of the EVMs. The experts appointed by the Election Commission today started the process of  thoroughly checking 500 Ballot Units, 500 Control Units and 310 Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines to be used during the elections, in the presence of the representatives of the various political parties including the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, Aam Aadmi Party and others. The Deputy Commissioner said that each of these would be installed at 236 polling booths on the day of by-election.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the primary motive of this visit was to ensure that polling for this by-election was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner. Mr. Sharma also had detailed interaction with the engineers preparing these machines in the college complex. He was apprised that all these EVMs would be ready for the use within few days after reformatting.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the machines would be prepared for the poll in the presence of the representatives of the political parties to ensure that the entire work was being done in a fair and transparent manner. He said that besides it elaborate arrangements have already been made by the district administration to ensure that the citizens exercise their right to franchise during the upcoming by-poll peacefully and fairly.
