Fatehgarh Sahib, May 16, 2018: The residents of the town would have to wait indefinitely for getting the development works started in Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib town as the council meeting called today was again postponed for the consecutive 6th time by the council president, who owes allegiance to SAD(B), whereas earlier Congress councilors led by MLA Kuljit Nagra had been getting it postponed on one or the other reason. All the development projects have come to standstill from the last one year and the town smells, roads, streets and drains are in depilated condition but the councilors are busy in political tussle.

The meeting of Municipal Councilors Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib held today at council office Sirhind witnessed heated arguments between the council president Sher Singh and Congress councilors led by Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA. The annual budget of the council for 2018-2019 worth Rs.31.29 Crore was passed unanimously and the council president started discussing agenda items, but MLA rejected all the agenda items terming it as prepared in arbitrary manner. Twelve councilors belonging to Congress out of nineteen present in the meeting sought the resignation of the council president as he has lost the confidence of the majority of the councilors. MLA urged the president to resign, but he rejected the requisition of MLA and councilors that no out of agenda item can be discussed as per Municipal Act. He dared the MLA to bring separate no confidence against him. As the stalemate continued President postponed the meeting.

While talking to media persons MLA Nagra said that President has lost the confidence of the councilors he should resign at his own in the interest of the town, so that development works may start in town as Govt. want to make Fatehgarh Sahib model town and President being from opposition party is making hurdles.

Sher Singh Council president said that Congress Councilors have been trying since long to grab the post and creating scenes just to create a cause for his ouster. He said meeting was postponed as MLA and Congress councilors instead of discussing development projects started seeking his resignation. He said he dared MLA to bring no confidence and he is ready to face, but won’t resign under pressure. He said that MLA want to shield one Congress councilor, whose father as Executive Officer of Municipal council Sirhind passed the site plan of the shop of his relative without ownership papers as the land belongs to PWD. He said he has referred the case to State Govt. to enquire and punish the culprit.
