Nodal officers appointed to give major push to anti-drug campaign in schools

Jalandhar, July 8 - In order to spread massive awareness against the drugs especially amongst the young school going students, 19 Nodal officers have been appointed to give boost to anti-drug campaign in all the 438 government senior secondary schools in the district.

As per the decision, these nodal officers have been appointed in 19 blocks of Education department to monitor and ensure activities for spreading awareness against the drugs. The nodal officers have been mandated to ensure activities in form of declamation contests, essay writing and drawing competitions at school, block and district level to ensure that students were made aware of the curse of drugs.

Divulging more details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the sole motive was to sensitize the students against the scourge of drugs at growing age. He said that these Nodal officers would supervise the anti-drug activities in 15-20 schools under their jurisdiction. Mr. Sharma said that the students should know what was right for them especially at this point of time when Punjab was at war against drugs.

The Deputy Commissioner said that directions have already been passed to the Education department to ensure that students were made aware of this curse even during the morning prayers so that they could not fell prey to this menace at any cost. Mr. Sharma said that though strenuous efforts have been made by the state government to snap the supply line of drugs but these steps to make Jalandhar drug free could not fructify until and unless the youth and students join this movement against drugs.       

The District Education Officer Mr. Satnam Singh said that the nodal officers of department would ensure that massive awareness was created amongst the students against the curse of drugs. He said that already a massive drive has been started to make youth aware against drugs through awareness camps, marathons and other activities.

Meanwhile, District Guidance Counsellor Mr. Surjit Lal also said that in consonance with the directions of the district administration all out efforts were being made by the department to make Jalandhar drug free, healthy and prosperous district.
